Traditionally, the Saint Patrick used the shamrock in Ireland to represent the Christian doctrine of Trinity. Now its use is more widespread and represents the whole of Ireland, rather than trinity. The shamrock is most often seen on St. Patrick's day worn as a pin on the lapel.
